Event Photography for Berne Union High School in Sugar Grove, Ohio

This Columbus event photographer was invited back to Sugar Grove, Ohio yesterday for their graduation ceremony. This sin’t a particularly challenging or creative photography session, but I am thrilled to do it because of what I know I can offer my client.

Event photography allows me to showcase my talents as a fly-on-the-wall-photographer capturing great candid moments for a very important day, even if the graduating class is only 55 people. It is a great opportunity for me to be invited back year after year for my business, but it also helps me check myself.

When I’m working as a concert photographer, I’m working for myself to capture the most exciting imagery I can. It helps me keep things fresh for my clients when there is a clear format to the event that could be captured by any “guy with a camera”, but was requested to be photographed by me. I strive to offer them moving, interesting, and fun photography that is worth the drive each year for me and my client.

The same could be said for corporate events, or weddings. As a photographer, it is so easy to provide the same cookie-cutter photos to cover these events. I prefer to remind them why they chose me, so they can remember the experience when someone else raises the query, “Do you know of a great event photographer in Columbus, or one that is willing to travel to Tahiti? (I can dream big!). Referrals are the best form of flattery for me and I can’t help but smile when a client lets me know, “You photographed this event, or you took headshots for my friend and they recommended you.”

Lastly, it is always fun to listen to principal Craig Heath talk about the antics from the annual senior TP excursion on his house. This year, the seniors TP-ed the wrong house. Looking forward to next year, Rockets!
